A thankful heart: Read the latest issue of Heart to Heart magazine

We might not get the colorful leaves of more northern climes, but fall down South is still hard to match.

There’s football. There are festivals. There are the holidays. And, most of all, there’s the welcome dose of cooler air and lower humidity.

This year, with COVID-19 numbers in retreat, the arrival of fall feels as refreshing as ever.

So, you might notice a hint of optimism in the fall 2021 edition of Heart to Heart, St. Tammany Health System’s quarterly magazine. If you do, now you know why – and we’re not sorry about it one bit.

Among the stories you’ll find in this edition:

  • Meet Irvin Keller, a heart patient who recently underwent minimally invasive TAVR surgery to replace a malfunctioning heart valve. Here, we tell his story – and we also explain exactly what TAVR is and why it’s so groundbreaking for patients like Mr. Keller.
  • With the holidays nearly upon us, wellness and lifestyle nutritionist Julie Fortenberry offers five simple tips for making your season happier and healthier – along with a recipe for sautéed eggplant that’s got our mouths watering.
  • Breast Cancer Awareness Month is almost over for another year, and St. Tammany Foundation’s monthlong United in Pink campaign was a major success.
  • It’s hard to be happy about Hurricane Ida, especially with the damage it delivered to the health system and so many of our neighbors earlier this year, but we couldn’t be prouder of the way our entire team rose to the challenge, helping each other while also continuing to deliver the world-class healthcare for which we’ve been known since our founding in 1954.

Read those stories and more in the fall 2021 issue of Heart to Heart, a complimentary copy of which you’ll find in your mailbox in coming days or – if you’re in the neighborhood – at our Covington hospital.

You can also peruse a digital version, as well as back issues, in our online newsroom at StTammany.health/newsroom.
